San Francisco - With the Olympic torch passing through this prickly city on April 9, thousands of protesters showed up in a bid to follow on Paris and London demonstrations against China's human rights record.

In fact, the San Francisco leg kicked off on the other side of the city, and lucky were those who managed to catch a glimpse of the flame. Organizers decided on this last minute change of route in order to avoid the chaos of earlier legs.
