On 11 June, 1963, Venerable monk Thích Quảng Đức burned himself to death in protest against the so-called religious discrimination of the South Vietnam regime. The self-immolation served the communist propaganda to mislead the internal and international public about the dire situation of South Vietnam, which triggered the fall of President Ngô Đình Diệm and the escalation of the Vietnam war.

Millions of Vietnamese died in the war for the so-called “independence, freedom, and happiness.” 60 years later, Vietnamese people are still not enjoying those ideals that their forefathers had fought and died for.
