Reply to this commentWang Chang Ly,
World is still belonging to China; US financially owe the Chinese and was also why you called yourself as the centre of the world ‘Trung Cock’. Am I right?
It was the true, if China did not help Vietnam then we properly still slave for the French or the US and equally, if the South was to win that war, we would have thanks the US, Japan, S. Korea, Philippines and so on. Vietnam was a play ground for the superpowers battle fields. If I to thanks the Chinese then I must Thank the Russian and the Eastern blocks of Europe much more sincere than the Chinese.
Now, I like chit chat up here only and no need for personal email exchange!

Reply to this commentVow! How can you guy claim that those provinces owned by Vietnam? It's very ridiculous and ignorant to say so of the uneducated person like you Edwin Tran. By our government help, your country could stand today if without our government assistance, you have no country and living as a slave. We got you survive on present soil. Think before saying, don't talk without conscience. We Chinese will not tolerate anyone encroaching us, at any costs, we will protect our country. Some islands in which China controlling and more also will be taken because our government gave help to your isolated country to fight America by weapons and all necessary things at that time. And your country leaders agreed to cede us those lands. If you have any doubt, let mail me at lychangchina@gmail.com.

Reply to this commentI support Mr Thach Chea's assertion is true Vietnam is plunderer is a barbaric tribe no certain place to stay. First our Vietnamese captured Champa then to Cambodian Land. The World recognize that claim. We never seen any Vietnamese related historical events in the south-occupied Land. Reply to this commentOne more thing Thach Chea: Vietnam was a big state included China Quang Dong, Quang Chau and reached as far as Hong Kong. China invaded Vietnam and took most of the land, brain-washed them all, and what left of Vietnam with the Delta and Central and we have never complaint and asked the Chinese to return for Vietnam. Vietnam did not occupied South Vietnam, was waste land and we moved down. Live with it. Human moved from Africa outward to Europe and Asia, do you want to claim Africa too? You are lucky to be in Vietnam, but must read history my friend Thach Chea!

Every country is the same. Law must be abided by every citizen, or you are a criminal. Mr. Ly has his own choice, against the law and be barbarian as he wanted and that is his freedom of choice. I only pity for people like Mr. Gandhi, who abided every law, and still faced prison term.

Reply to this commentBetween 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rouge submitted Cambodia to a totalitarian regime that killed more than a million people.

Reply to this commentHow did the Khmer Rouge come to power?
In the 1960s, ‘Khmer Rouge’ was the name given to followers of the Communist Party of Kampuchea (the name given by the communists of Cambodia to the country). Following the military coup of 1970, they formed an alliance of convenience with the ousted prince. They then threw themselves into an insurgency, and, after five years of civil war, succeeded in capturing Phnom Penh and ousting the military.

Reply to this commentWhat was their ideology?
Most of the movement’s leaders, including Pol Pot, studied for a time in France, where they were very influenced by the French Communist Party. But the Asian context – and the Vietnamese and Chinese examples – also contributed to the forging of their own ideological framework. As in Maoism, the Khmer Rouge made farmers their proletariat. They were also opposed to their Vietnamese neighbours, whom they considered arrogant intellectuals.

Reply to this commentWhat kinds of policies were implemented during the Pol Pot regime?
When he came to power, Pol Pot declared it “Year Zero” for the Democratic Republic of Kampuchea. The Khmer Rouge completely isolated the country. Anyone suspected of being an “intellectual” was tortured and most often executed. Even wearing glasses was considered enough to warrant such treatment. This purging of Cambodian society gradually turned into a hunt for anyone suspected of opposition. In terms of economic policies, the Khmer Rouge abolished its currency and private property and went so far as to empty the cities and force the population into labour camps.

Reply to this commentHow many people were killed under this totalitarian regime?
According to estimates, between one and 2.5 million Cambodians -- out of 8 million -- died under the Khmer Rouge regime. The University of Hawaii performed a statistical calculation of the number of victims of Pol Pot’s regime. According to the study, 2,400,000 people died between 1970 and 1980. This estimate included deaths caused by famine.

Reply to this commentHow did the reign of the Khmer Rouge end?
In 1978, tensions between Vietnam and Cambodia turned into all-out war. On January 7, 1979 the Vietnamese captured Phnom Penh. The Khmer Rouge was forced to retreat west, where they continued an insurgency against the government until Pol Pot’s death in 1988. “Democratic Kampuchea” held on to its seat at the United Nations General Assembly until 1993.

Reply to this commentHopefully, Father Ly, be released soon. For Mien Tay of Vietnam, Widely-known Vietnamese invaded Cambodia illegally and barbarically. Historically speaking, whole southern Vietnam belong to Cambodia, no one can refute the truth. By the mercy of Khmers, the Vietnam settled first then plundered like the case of Champa. I wish Father Ly be well and strong. Communist theory is good somehow the people practice it too bad. May democracy comes to my Vietnam soon. My lovely Vietnam.
