The Uighurs are not a homogenous people. They came from all over the western lands, India, Persia, Middle East and Mongolia. Some Uighurs look like westerners, some are like Indians, some look like Mongolians. The Uighurs are a mixture of people from various parts of the world who settled in Xinjiang and they have no right to claim Xinjiang as theirs. Uighurs should take a DNA test to see where their ancestors came from and be deported back to their ancestral land accordingly. The Chinese government should initiate such DNA test to settle the Uighur problem once and for all.

“My only intention was to free my motherland from the cruelty of the Chinese government, so that Uyghurs can live freely and in peace,” he said./////////////////Motherland? What Motherland? The Motherland of the Uighurs is in Turkey and not Xinjiang. Don't try to steal land in Xinjiang and claim it as your Motherland. If Xinjiang were populated by Red Indians then you have a good chance of stealing it, but, too bad the Han Chinese are there.

How about the history of China's borders and kingdoms?

Looks like the Han's were never in the west until late 1800's after an imperialist takeover.
Today, of course China wants to claim Xinjiang as it's own since the beginning of history. This map makes it very obvious why:
