China views Tibet as its colony. Therefore, like all colonial rulers, China exploits Tibet's natural resources, including its minerals & waters. While doing so, China pollutes the once-pristine Tibetan Plateau. Chinese mining in or around Tibetan sacred sites also offends the feelings of the Tibetan people. But since Chinese view Tibetans as superstitious savages anyway, the Communist Party doesn't care what Tibetans think of mining in Tibet. Tibet will only be safe when China is gone from the Tibetan Plateau.
