Some of the commentators here are clearly Chinese/CCP agents/apologists. Prayer flags are part of Tibetan culture & religion. Forcing Tibetans to take them down are a violation of Tibetan religious freedoms & is part of the CCP's war against Tibetan religion. There is no genuine religious & political freedom in Chinese-occupied Tibet.

Reply to this commentUnfortunately they have started making the prayer flags from nylon and polyester fibers which are not bio-degradable like the old ones were.

Reply to this commentI\m afraid that is not true...they take down perfectly good ones as well...it is all a part of the government's process of eradicating traditional Tibetan culure...much as the US did to its own native culture...

Reply to this commentNote that not all prayer flags are removed; only in certain places. I have been in Tibet twice, traveling by car both the northern as well as the southern route from Chengdu and I can tell you that the prayer flags are a environmental nightmare. As they age and weather they fall off and clutter the rivers, the mountain sides, the valleys, the meadows.
China's government just wants to clean up and keep Tibet green.
