Khmer in USA from Stockton California U.S. A. :

Sam Rainsy should n't leave Cambodia for his daughter wedding while all his supporters were still sitting on the sharp thorns of CPP. To show a strong leader, Sam Rainsy had to stay in Cambodia and his daughter wedding should be postponed to next time.

I cannot participate IN THE DEMONSTRATION EVENT due to I have to attend my daughter's birthday party that day! You know family come first just like lok prothean. He had to attend his daughter's wedding in NY while Khmer people and the whole country need him to stay in front in the time like this. No leasdership skills. "what you have done for yourself will die with you but what you have done for others will stay forever."

I understand that the wedding of one's daughter is an important event, but so are the well-beings of millions of Cambodians who pin their hopes on Sam Rainsy. If your daughter's wedding is so important that you cannot miss it to tend to a national crisis of this magnitude, then don't get into politics. Like the last poster pointed out, the wedding may be postponed to a later date until things settle down. After all, it's a wedding, not a funeral. I think the level enthusiasm for the opposition will decline because of Mr. Rainsy's departure. While the intentions of overseas Khmer politicians may be noble, their hit-and-run politics is getting old.

CNRP suppoter from USA :

Are you kidding me right now? Family comes first [...]. As a father who would miss a daughter one in a life time wedding. He has devoted all of his time and risking his life for his country and people are criticizing him for going to his daughter’s wedding? Give me a break!

I don't believe his decision to leave Cambodia during such a critical time is a very wise one. The wedding of his daughter can be postponed for the sake of tending to the national crisis. I think people will be less motivated to fight for change after this event. Of course, the wedding of one's daughter is important, but not so important that one needs to leave his country at such a critical time.

It's unfortunate, very bad timing! The opportunity for CHANGE is now. I wish Sam Rainsy cease this opportunity that we might never get again. I thought it would had been helpful if he had stay with people. But Sam Rainsy is only one person, there are many more Sam Rainsy in the whole Cambodia. "YES, WE CAN", it's time for CHANGE!

I think it's a little selfish of us to be too critical of Sam Rainsy. He's human too just like everyone of us. If you were his daughter, you would want your father to be there at the wedding. This is important to her just as it is important to him as a father. This is her most important day of her life, perhaps, after a birth of a baby.
