A representative from Try Pheap Company said, "Our company does not log illegally." Right! That is what they all said when caught. Geeze, why don't they say, "our company legally deforested through government sanctions" is more accurate. This is why truck after truck only operates at night carrying illegal timber as if operating in the dark of nights made people stupid. Sorry, people are more wiser everyday. Even if the CPP put blindfold on the people, they can still smell, hear and taste the corruption.
The company also said that villagers were given adequate compensation. Really? Is that why Cambodia has so many people forced out of their farmland and homes? The CPPs are not only liars, but bad liars.

Reply to this commentHun Sen could get rid of this problem in a heart beat by burning down all log mills. But doing this is like taking out his other good eye. I wouldn't count on it. As everyone knows, Hun Sen went on TV years ago announcing he would cut his head off if he couldn't stop illegal logging. Who still believes this man is an idiot!

Reply to this commentWhy don't they called "forest concession" instead of "land concession?" Called what it truly is. They just go in cut down trees and destroyed habitats, nothing happened after that, leaving land bared to rain and erosion.

Reply to this commentDon't count on the CPP thieves to defend the truth and honor because a thief only interested in defending other thieves. Look at rich people in Cambodia, how many of them made money without being corrupted? Zero!!

Reply to this commentI like to applaud these NGOs for defending the weak and the poor. Khmer should realize by now to not count on government to defend them when troubles come knocking. People need to learn, in Cambodia, if you have power and money, you are insulated from the law. This case has proven again, that the government is only interested in defending the rich and the powerful. There are two laws in Cambodia, one is for people with power and money and other is for ordinary people. What sad is that these laws are twisted and bent to fit the CPP's needs for the moment while real law is disregarded as irrevelant. Phay Siphan is right. Cambodia is ruled by money and power, not rule of law. So why created laws when it's not worth paper written on?

What else do people expect from cpp and most of Cambodia officials? All got the the most importamt requirement to do their job position- they have to have a criminal mentality, and the lying skills of a con artist. How else could these crooks get rich if not stealing from international donors and Cambodia itself by oppressing all Khmer people.
