not much that the poor and weak can do when money and power corrupt the very system that is supposed to serve and protect them. the ministry, laws and regulations concerning title to land and ownerships need to be thoroughly investigated by the politicians, the national assembly, and commissions. if not now, when, for an overdue oversight and public hearing of the issue?

Reply to this commentCurrent elite society are full of idiotics and superior family-tide power. If ones are not affiliated with certain corrupted elited family, justice and social equality will not exist.
Power is always dangerous. Power attracts the worst and corrupted the best.

Reply to this commentWho stupid idea was this, the concept of land concession? This is the Hun Sen's policy the past 20 years that brought rich for his cronies and death and misery to his people.
This is Khmer culture in display. The culture of rich and powerful kill the poor for their land. Phay Siphan said this himself, that if you have money, you can easily buy justice. This is example of that. And they never ever find justice for the victims. Who is this superior guy, claiming this land belongs to him?

I have a lot of sympathy for the poor and weak when those with money and power are so well rehearsed at avoiding the issues. Instead of focusing on the criminal activity evident here and pervasive more generally among the elite, the Cambodian government instead tries to suggest the Global Witness can't possibly understand because it's an outsider. Even if that argument held any weight in principle, does the Cambodian government not consider those from whom Global Witness gets its information to have an understanding of Khmer culture; some of whom identify as Khmer? I despair.
