<<<The appointment of Annan and two other foreigners to the commission has prompted protests in Rakhine by the dominant political party and ethnic Rakhine Buddhists who argue that the panel will automatically side with the Rohingya.>>>

Wrong assumption. These outsiders have no stake in this but to see peace and prosperity for all sides. Without outsiders help, it's very hard for different groups to come to a consensus because every group will try to gain advantage in a negotiation. So acrimonious will continue if they are not willing to take and give in a negotiation. I hope peace will come soon. The people deserve this, they've been waiting too long.

richard147 from San Francisco :

So called Rohingyas are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who stole the identity of native Rakhine people to fool the civilized world.
To steal identity and distort a nations history is a severe crime.
They are genetically identical to Bangladeshi(Bengali). Speak like duck, walk like duck and sound like duck is a duck. They are 100% Bengali.

Then the government should investigate whether they are illegal. I'm sure there are laws that deal with illegal immigrants. Following the law is important in a democratic society.
