Reply to this commentAn alternative tubing place has opened up in Chiang Mai called Chiang Mai Tubing and Beach Club. It also has the only beach in Chiang Mai to play some volleyball or frisbee.

Reply to this commentFantastic that my beautiful Vang Vieng has had a crackdown. Over 20 years this astoundingly beautiful town and it's residents have been subject to the the onslaught of the unthinking and largely uncaring 'Lonely Planet Brigade'.

Vang Vieng has lots to offer tourists apart from drugs & tubing.Luck Yang, have you ever been to Vang Vieng, the statement that you made is utter rubbish, the towns have a lot to offer tourists from fantastic scenery to fun leisure activities.
Instead of complaining of lower numbers of drunken youth tourists the town should look to capitalise on the fact that the party town label no longer applies.
Many tourists stayed away because of this reputation, time for Vang Vieng to re-invent itself instead of complaining about the loss of the anti social element.
The tourists who stayed away are far more affluent and do not cause problems. Concentrating on this market is a win win situation !
