We should probably expect more double-talk and double-dealing from Beijing on the North Korean issue, since the Kim family dynasty is a convenient stick for Beijing to beat the Americans and Japanese with, and serves as a buffer state between the Celestial Realm and the "hostile international forces" in South Korea. The Chinese Party-state's paranoia and control freakery nearly always trumps that country's public opinion, which is disenfranchised--no meaningful ballots to vote for their top national leaders, or even their leaders beyond the level of the village head.
