Wangchuk from NYC :

Don't be fooled. The CCP is not going to reform in any positive way. They are not going to give up or weaken their absolute monopoly on power b/c they're afraid it will unravel everything. The CCP doesn't exist to serve China or its people, it exists to keep itself in power & provide privileges to its members.

Leng Jiefu's open letter for establishing a federal republic under the rule of law in China is reasonable. Nor would CCP officials be punished en masse if this transition were handled peacably, judging from the experience in Eastern Europe and the former USSR when they gave up single-party Leninist authoritarian rule. It was only in Rumania under Caecescu's violent crackdown against protestors where the dictator was executed or punished severely. Elsewhere in Eastern Europe, former Party officials were free to run for political office in competitive elections. Some succeeded, some didn't. But they all kept their heads.
