Free at last, the look on her face says it all about what the people in China think in their hearts. The communists have lost the hearts and minds of the people, they should fear the future if they don't change, and stop persecuting the people.

The inequality of the trade war with China is nowhere better exemplified than here. Whilst other countries wage war solely with commodities and markets, China is in the privileged position of being able to use what in a sane world would be to its disadvantage (its human rights abuses) to its advantage; it is able to use human lives and human freedom as bargaining chips, and very potent ones at that.

I wish Liu Xia all the best in her new life, whilst hoping there is no prospect of intimidation against her remaining family back in China preventing her from speaking freely even now about her experiences. If the tentacles of totalitarianism can reach her in this way even in Germany and she must continue to stifle her voice, then she is still not free, and may never be as long as she lives.
