"Illegal assembly" says it all - namely that in Hong Kong rights of assembly, like parallel rights such as free speech, are now pretty much what they are on the mainland, i.e. practically non-existent.

These three boys are political prisoners, plain and simple, and the sentences they have received (the most lenient of the jail sentences we can safely predict await them in future) are a clear warning to anyone else in Hong Kong who is planning to don the mantle of resistance.

Governments of the free world meanwhile look on and do nothing. The UK government's acquiescence in these abuses particularly is nothing short of a betrayal of the people of Hong Kong, and only adds another chapter to its shameful history of involvement in Chinese affairs.
