I believe the phrase "subversion of state power" is a wrong translation of the Chinese law. The correct translation should be "fighting for the state power" because the Chinese verb "Dian Fu" can mean many things according to its objective. When its objective is "regime", Dian Fu means "subversion"; when its objective is power, then Dian Fu means "fighting for". Fighting for state power is precisely the goal of democratic activists, and also the criminal name used by the Chinese court. No Chinese court has ever charged the democratic activists with "subversion of the state, or the regime, or the government. It is all a power struggle; the communists want to monopolize power while democratic activists want to fight for power in democratic elections.
