The CCP again shows it doesn't believe in freedom of speech or media freedom. Gao Yu was jailed for allegedly leaking a document proving the CCP tries to control the media. The CCP didn't deny the existence of Document #9. Of course the prosecution did not provide any material evidence, only a false confession obtained via torture. If a Chinese citizens does anything the embarrasses the CCP, they go to jail.
Also thanks to "ChasL" from Seattle for this comment supporting the CCP. His 50 yuan is in the mail.

Human rights are universal, they apply to each country, including China and Saudi Arabia.
I demand freedom for Gao Yu on my Facebook profile.

Reply to this commentWhen the CCP Inc. is afraid of a 71-year Chinese lady who speaks of truth in China, we know that the end of CCP empire is approaching fast! There are hundreds of millions of Chinese boomers who are just like her! They are seeking truth and not afraid of CCP officials. Does the CCP empire have enough prisons for them?

Reply to this commentUm, hello, remember Snowden and Manning? Doesn't matter how justified you feel, leaking state secret is ILLEGAL IN AMERICA TOO. Matter of fact, 7 years is nothing; FARA prosecution in US is punishable up to 25 years.

Gao Yu is a journalist, not a state security employee, and she did not steal classified information on intelligence gathering and take it with her overseas to hide behind Putin's FSB the way Snowden did. The seven taboo topics in the PRC/CCP document have nothing to do with intelligence gathering, and include such common topics as an independent judiciary, universal values, and freedom of the press. To sentence a journalist to 7 years' imprisonment over discussion of such routine topics is sheer political persecution of a medieval sort.
