it is politically sensitive because it gives a negative view of the future or lack of future of Hong Kong under China.

According to a Jan. 22 editorial in the paper, the film is likely to bring "more harm than benefits" to Hong Kong.
"Its box office sales ... show that it has only influenced a small number of Hong Kong people," the paper wrote, citing only three million in ticket sales. "It is to be hoped that the Hong Kong people will have some immunity to this thought virus, and are unlikely to follow it into the gutter, once all the fuss is over.”>>
OMG OMG...yes, the film bring more harm to Communist thugs than benefits freedom of expression of Hong Kong people is exactly right.

Wow, now I know what Chinese people are complaining about with the "western media," because this article is so badly reported that the reporter must've blinded themself to common sense in pursuit of their preferred narrative. Really, five million tickets? Use your head, what's the population of Hong Hong, 6+ million or so? So over 80% of the population saw the movie? Or, what, maybe "only" half the population saw it bit the difference is made up by mainland tourists who took a break from shopping to watch a movie that probably 95% would find infuriating? Give me a break, it's obviously 5 million HKD in sales (use your brain- when have you EVER heard box office figures in terms of tickets sold rather than revenue? Maybe the figures came from somebody who didn't make themselves clear in English, but it should raise a red flag for anybody.) Definitely good for an indie film, but not a "smash hit" and not figures that would justify keeping it around much longer than most movies get.
Also, I'm not sure about the claim that it beat Star Wars in "some theaters." Another article I read named only Broadway Cinemateque. Which, if I recall from seeing festival films there some years ago, is an ARTHOUSE theater. They probably only showed Star Wars because they'd be turning away money of they didnt, but frankly a theater like that does not offer the best experience for an action blockbuster, and it's not surprising that a successful indie could beat a blockbuster in a theater like that.
I mean, I hate the commies as much as anybody- and one thing I hate about them us their disgusting, unashamed lying. People on the other side need to be more careful with the facts to maintain credibility.
