For years, even decades, Chinese Communist Party chiefs have ignored calls from legal experts both at home to do away with this re-education through labor system of administrative detention, which has no basis in law and is a relic of Mao Era lawlessness. If the leaders continue to remain so unaccountable for their authoritarian decrees, can they expect to keep sitting on their thrones forever? Is there no such thing as a reckoning for abusing the civil rights of ordinary citizens?
