The claim by the CCP that Bo Xilai's trial is an example of judicial openness or rule of law is laugable. Everyone inside & outside China knows that the conviction is a foregone conclusion, the court has already made its decision (under orders from the Party), and is probably already drafting the decision. Only the sentence remains a mystery. Nearly all criminal trials in China result in convictions and very few are acquitted. Few defendants even get a trial as most are tortured by police into confessing. There can be no genuine rule of law as long as the judiciary are not independent and subservient to the Party.
