Obviously the regime is single-party Leninist authoritarian in character, more like an autocracy or oligarchy than a republic. So maybe there needn't be a designated successor, since in any case it's the same old system in which the communist party controls practically everything--certainly the military, the government, the judiciary, the finance system, most of the economy, and most organizations.
