All books published in Cambodia are not telling the truth because the real writers can be assassinated or jailed. If the authors are along to government policies they are welcomed and sometime to be promoted after small bribery. Before Cambodia Independence era, Sihanouk Era, Khmer Republic (Lon Nol) era, Communist (Pol Pot) era, and Hun Sen's government, I never see or read any real events.

The atrocity on Cambodian which was caused by Khmer Rouge is terrible, however, the motive of the killing is political will against the Vietnamese communist regime it is a genocide act.
Every body might still remember that the early cadres of the Khmer Rouge revolution in the 1970s were trained by Ha Noi regime, so this is a euphemism of intention of communist Vietnam to paw the way to invade Cambodia in the future.
It is not surprising that later on Mr. Hun Sen was installed to become a PM of Cambodia. Within ten years of invading Cambodia, communist Vietnam has plenty of times to train their member to learn the Cambodia language, marry Cambodia woman, and put them in every level of government and society in Cambodia. Even PM Hun Sen's wife is descendant of Vietnamese as well.
Under the eye of the international community that Vietnam communist troop has been withdrawn from Cambodia for several decades ago, but inside deep down in Cambodia government system and society today has already belonged to Vietnam since then.
This is the big difference between the two genocidal perpetrators Pon Pot and Ho Chi Minh if taking a comparative approach to the case of Dega people genocide in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Pon Pot just did one thing that is killing a large number of Cambodia people, but Ho Chi Minh had done many things to Dega people. Dega people not only being physically killing but their lands have been depriving, their culture has been destroyed, their language and identity has been extinguished,
Dega people survivors have been enslaved ...And no longer they will disappear on the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
Regrettably, the world community only pointed on Pot as genocide perpetrator, but, not Ho Chi Minh.
