Reply to this commentA pressure is too much for Hun Sen to bare. European election observers refused to participate which would make this election illegitimate. So with this pardon, Hun Sen hopes to make this election legitimate.
40% GDP of Cambodia comes from garment industry which depending so much on US and European buyers. If it decided to put sanction on Cambodia, Hun Sen regime would fall. Hun Sen knows this. Cambodia tiny tourism and export can not hold Cambodia together. So the lion share of GDP comes from aid and garment.

Reply to this commentHun Sen decided when to charge his opponent and when to pardon his opponent. It's a game Hun Sen is expert in and has been practicing this game for 30 years.
People are beginning to wise up now. For example, the CPP goes around using small gifts to con people to vote for them, which is a violation of election law. I talk to a lot people and they are telling me that they take the gift, but on voting day they will vote for CNRP.
Again, it is perfect legal for people to vote for whomever they want because its the law. But it's illegal for the CPP to buy vote. And the people know this. Good for them!

At least Hun Sen must realizes who is a real threat to Cambodian people , and Vietnam don't wants the democratic society grows in Cambodia!
Anyway, Cambodia will be better place for human exists and lives together, especially for Degar people in the North East part of Cambodia.
