Cambodia has leased to China for 99 years a plot of land in the cambodian highland next to vietnamese border supposedly for rubber plantation but turned into a secret operation zone where cambodian officials are not allowed in. The chinese may set up listening post or radar station to monitor vietnamese miitary traffic. This area corresponds to the narrowest point in Vietnam, only 50km wide. In time of conflict, China can mount special operation to effectively cut Vietnam in half, sever road and rail lines and coastal sea traffic as well.
In August 1965, in his speech before the Central Committee of the communist party, Mao said that China must take control of the whole Indochina Peninsula comprising Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam and of course the South China Sea before moving on to take Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia and then on to conquer the Indian Ocean.

Reply to this commentVietnam, Laos and Cambodia are very closely intertwined, like lips and teeth. One reckons without the French arrival to colonize Indochina, one would expect Cambodia and Laos to be incorporated into a Greater Indochina for better survivability against a much bigger common threat, China. Vietnam has a legitimate security concern which must be addressed. Laos and Cambodia must keep in mind not to allow China too much sway in their countries necessitating a vietnamese intervention, whether they like it or not. Imagine a hostile Canada under Russian control right next to the US!

Reply to this commentHUN SEN is puppet, VIET brother number 1. THE VIETCONGS put him in place in Jan 7 1979 to control Cambodia. CAMBODIA is a slavish state just like LAOS.
HUN SEN does NOT defend CAMBODIAN interest , in the contrary he praises the VIETNAMESE interest and preaches the VIET BROTHERHOOD -- a definite KHMER TRAITOR !

Reply to this commentHun Sen and his clique seem to ignore the problem, and that is, Vietnam encroaching on Khmer territory. For the past 30 years, not one, did Hun Sen and his cronies ever criticize Vietnam for planting border markers on Cambodia side. NOT ONE! Instead, Hun Sen trying to arrest Sam Rainsy for trying to protect the territory. Who is the patriot and who is the traitor here?
Now ah Yuon said, Cambodia never lost territory to Vietnam, including Koh Tral. Hun Sen, do you agree with that Yuon statement, that Cambodia never lost territory to Vietnam?

Cambodians kill Cambodians is not enough, they asked Vietnamese or Chineses or Thai to help them kill their own people. iN the end Vietnamese or Chinese or thai took pat of the land as their compensation. Cambodia become smaller and smaller.
