BANGKOKBurmas military government has released three political prisoners in recent days, including two members of Aung San Suu Kyis National League for Democracy (NLD).
NLD member Ko Wanay Soe, handed a 10-year jail term in 1999 for illegal associations, was freed on June 24 for health reasons.
A source close to his family told RFAs Burmese service that Ko Wanay Soe had developed a liver ulcer and required immediate treatment by specialists at Rangoon General Hospital.
Lawyer Tin Aye was released June 24, and NLD member Tin Tun, sentenced to 20 years in prison in 1993, was also freed from Rangoons notorious Insein Prison on June 20.
No indications have been forthcoming, however, about when NLD leader and Nobel Laureate Suu Kyi might be freed from a year of detention.
Human rights groups say the Burmese junta continues to detain some 1,3000 political prisoners. #####
