At least in Burma there has been some opening up to critics of the government after 50 years of authoritarian suppression and violence. In China after over sixty years of authoritarian suppression and violence, there is no sign of the sort of thaw and opening to civil rights and free speech that we are witnessing in Myanmar/Burma.
