Yep, absolute power corrupts absolutely. As long as China remains a "one party rules" country it will never achieve real greatness. Shoddy rapid development using western technology in a haphazard manner will lead to tragedy after tragedy as the people are denied liberty and the protections of a representative democracy.

China is a train wreck disguised, temporarily, as a great success story. The truth will eventually be revealed and the underlying structural rot of its governmental system will eventually take it down. Remember the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and the resulting massacre? There will be more protests and they will dwarf those of '89.
