Patrick from UK :

Referring to the massive operations of huge machines to raze every tree and shift millions of tons of soil to 'terraform' the land into a sterile desert of soy as 'slash and burn' grossly mischaracterises what is going on in the Amazon. 'Slash and Burn' implies a small-scale activity by small farmers and settlers, whereas the actual operations taking place are on a huge industrial scale.
