WASHINGTON, DC – Former U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe and communications expert Michael Meehan have been elected Chair and Vice-Chair respectively of the corporate board of Radio Free Asia. Both are members of the Broadcasting Board of Governors and, as stated under RFA’s bylaws, are to serve a two-year term heading the board, which is comprised in addition to Ashe and Meehan of the remaining seven BBG members. They are Walter Isaacson, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Michael Lynton, Susan McCue, Dennis Mulhaupt, Dana Perino, and S. Enders Wimbush.

“Radio Free Asia is very fortunate to have Governors Ashe and Meehan lead our corporate board. I am confident that their guidance and advice will help RFA continue to move forward and fulfill our mission to provide reliable, credible news and information to people living in Asian countries that censor and restrict access to free media,” said Libby Liu, President of Radio Free Asia.

“I am honored to serve a two-year term as chair of the corporate board of Radio Free Asia along with Michael Meehan as vice-chair. RFA has a critical role to play in Asia as we seek to provide accurate news to those nations where freedom of press is restricted or repressed in some cases. We have a dedicated group of people who make Radio Free Asia deliver credible news to the people of six nations that aggressively restrict the free flow of information,” Ashe said.

“Along with Ambassador Ashe, I am thrilled to join the dedicated, hardworking RFA team,” Meehan said.  “The inspiring work of the RFA journalists is amazing.  I look forward to working with this very talented team, who practice the best brand of journalism in a most challenging and important time.”

Ambassador Ashe served as mayor of Knoxville, Tenn., from 1988 to 2003. Ashe served as the United States Ambassador to Poland from June 2004 to October 2009.  In 2004, he was a fellow at Harvard University’s JFK Institute of Politics. From 1968 until 1974, Ashe served as a Tennessee State Representative. In 1975, he was elected as State Senator and held office until 1984. Ashe resides in Knoxville, Tenn.

Meehan currently serves as President of Blue Line Strategic Communications, Inc. and as Senior Vice President at Virilion, a digital media company, where he has advised over two dozen Fortune 500 companies on communications strategy. He also served as the first President of BGR Public Relations, LLC. For over two decades, Meehan served in leadership staff roles for U.S. Senators John Kerry, Barbara Boxer, and Maria Cantwell, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, and two U.S. House offices.
