The Uyghur Language Web Site has been awarded the prestigious Edward R. Murrow regional award for excellence in electronic journalism. The award was granted in the large market class for radio station Web sites.

"The Web site was quickly developed into a winner in just a few months. It could not have been done, of course, without the constant cooperation and help from all members of the service," said RFA President Dick Richter.

RFA Uyghur language Web site, the only non-Chinese Uyghur news Web site and the only Unicode Uyghur news Web site updated on a continuing basis. The Web site streams the daily broadcast in Uyghur and publishes text, photos, videos coverage to complement this daily show with background and educational material.

RFA Uyghur Web site offers on-going coverage of events in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, with interviews with local people who speak about the Chinese central and local government’s rules and their impact on the life of local people.

"I got to learn a little about the pains of the Uyghur people from my Uyghur friends at RFA, so I am doubly happy that the Uyghur service received this award," said a member of the RFA Web team.

"The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971," said the RTNDA's Web site. "Murrow's pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name.

Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession."
