VIETNAMESE POLICE DETAIN 12 FOR QUESTIONING

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 - Police in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have repeatedly questioned 12 dissidents suspected of working to form a new anti-corruption organization, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported Thursday. Among those called up for questioning are geophysicist Nguyen Thanh Giang, dissident Hoang Minh Chinh, and Colonel Pham Que Duong. Duong, along with literary historian Tran Van Khue, submitted an application to form an anti-corruption group on Sept. 2. Public security personnel in Hanoi invited Hoang Minh Chinh on Wednesday to attend a "working session." According to his family, Chinh was not allowed home until late last night. Early this morning he was again taken away and had yet to return home as of 7:00 p.m. Vietnamese time Thursday. RFA broadcast a 12-minute interview with Dr. Giang early Thursday Vietnamese time after the first day of questioning.
